Accounts

Many read/write websites require that you register with an email address and password. It's recommended that you set up a Gmail account for this purpose, although some popular sites ask for Yahoo accounts.

Using Useful Features to Interconnect
Probably the most useful features in the professional networking are interconnecting through RSS (Real Simple Syndication
), subscriptions, following, links, alerts, filters, pipes and much more. As the class finds and refines useful features, this page will accumulate them.

Choosing iGoogle as a Homepage
It is not a commerical for Google. Presently offers a collection of features that can serve as a model for setting up a webpage to manage your information. Much of the management in this example will actually be done with
an aggregator, specifically Google Reader.
When you navigate to iGoogle.com and establish your individual webpage, it will come with several little boxes giving you the news, weather, time and other popular information. You may or may not want to keep all of these. On the other hands you may want to add some additional ones.
To delete the unwanted gadgets, go to the upper right corner of the unwanted gadgets and click on the little triangle. Select "Delete this gadget" and affirm that on the next window.
To edit a gadget, again go to the upper right corner of the gadget and select "Edit settings" and respond to prompts.
To reaarange the gadgets in the page layout, just click and drag.
To add another gadget, go to top banner far right and click on" Add Stuff." The options here are extensive. Use the search options on the right if you have a general idea of gadgets you wish to add. You might search some of the following: google gadgets, calendar or google calendar, blogroll, bookmarks, alerts.
Yahoo offers an interesting feature at pipes.yahoo.com. Here your options are also extensive but you might try a Fetch Feed Site (under Sources) and a Filter (under Operators). After you've Saved and Run the Pipes (near the top), then choose +Google and Google Homepage. A new gagdget will appear on your iGoogle.com.
