Political Geography
This is an advanced survey of political geography as a field of study. Our focus is on the various ways in which people seek to establish, and contest, borders between places and exercise control over territory.

Learning Goals and Outcomes: In taking this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary debates and areas of research within the subfield of political geography.
  • Demonstrate critical geographical thinking about contemporary politics.
  • Employ and question political geographic theory, particularly in writing.
These goals reflect the geography faculty's emphasis on students learning to, "Explain important elements of geographic thought and practice" and "Interpret the interrelationships between people, space and place." This course also promotes the institiutonal outcomes of Integrative Learning and Written Communication.
