GradingYour grade in this course will be based on your completion rate of Assignments averaged across the seven categories: Reading Summaries, Response Essays, Response Essay Follow-ups, Summative Essay, In-Class Writing, Blogging, and Author Visit. If you are enrolled in GEOG 533 you will also have an additional project.
Note that Attendance & Participation can also affect your final grade. Finally, I reserve the right to make grade adjustments on the basis of demonstrable improvements in engagement and learning over the term, i.e., if you start the term slowly or by falling behind, but catch up or show substantial improvement, I may adjust your final grade to reflect this trajectory independent of your self-assessments. You can track your progress towards completion of assignments via Moodle (GEOG 433 or GEOG 533). All assignments, except Blogging, will be credited on a binary basis, with a 0 or 1 depending on whether you submitted an assignment (1) or not (0). Blogging will be credited with a 0-2 per week, based on the number of comments you contribute following assignment requirements. For your reference, there should be: ten (10) Reading Summaries, two (2) Response Essays and Response Essay Follow-ups, three (3) parts of the Summative Essay, ten (10) In-Class Writing assignments, twenty (20) blog comments, based on the requirement of two (2) per week, and one assignment related to the Author Visit. For students enrolled in GEOG 533, the graduate project may be a single assignment or have multiple parts. |
