css beauty

While not exactly a work of art, there is a freeing aspect CSS provides that a table-driven layout can't deliver.I'm still feeling a bit overwhelmed . . . and I'm not totally convinced I'd be willing to do this as more than a creative endeavor. I think I'll leave the rest of the programming to the professionals. I definitely realized what I wanted to from this assignment: not only an understanding of not only how css is written, but the knowledge (however limited) of how to use it.

WOU beauty ... well, a work in progress anyway...

This assignment also prompted a desire to re-design the WOU website. I started playing with different navigation and color schemes. Below is an example (image below left) of an initial concept. It gave me a chance to play with CSS tags such as: hovers and backgrounds, absolute and relative positioning, div tags and container tags, etc. I've played with several versions for a new WOU homepage, the image (below center) was a contender. The image below (far right) is ultimately the "neutral" look I think I'll pursue. With optional color palettes for secondary pages in red (pdf), sage (pdf), gold (pdf) and blue (pdf).

Yes, I'm a proud grandma. Managed to find a couple of days this quarter to take him to the beach and the Oregon Garden. You'll forgive me for showing him - and my love of photography - off a wee bit? (... the flowers you've seen, now it's Leif's turn...)

bibliography

Several interesting articles and websites (pdf) have helped pave this path. While some of them offered some interesting information, others delivered more detail than I could possibly hope to assimilate. A few have proved invaluable in this research project - such as lynda.com.
