Assignments

I will assess your learning in this course from the following assignments (for details on how these assessments will be reflected in grading, go here). Additional assignment information will be posted to the course Moodle site.

  1. Film Project. Starting in week 2, you will begin to work on a film project about "landscape," a key concept in cultural geography with applications in other social science fields. This assignment will be broken into eight (8) major parts which I will assess indepedently. The different parts of this assignment will present you with opportunities to practice course learning goals.
  2. In-class writing. Each week I will ask you to complete some combination of Learning Assessment and Freewriting in class. Learning Assessments are short tasks or questions that I will generally present at the end of each week. Their purpose is to help me gauge what you're learning. Freewriting is open-ended writing about the course and related material, usually within a given time period. There will be up to twenty (20) In-Class Writing assignments for the term. The In-Class Writing is an opportunity for you to practice and demonstrate reflection and self-assessment, which is a primary feature of Integrative Learning.

Generally, this assignment cannot be made up. However, if circumstances require you to miss multiple weeks of in-class writing, I recommend that you come talk to me about how that may affect your grade.
