Assignments

Your grade in this class is based on the following assignments:

  1. Field Practice. Each of you will select a topic for research that will let you practice different methods during the term. This assignment culminates in a formal paper. Details about Field Practice will be discussed in class and during individual consulations. The assignment is broken into the following parts (links will be made active as different stages are assigned following the Calendar):
    • Part I: Proposal
    • Part II: Field Practice: Methodological preparation
    • Part III: Check-ins
    • Part IV: Preliminary drafts
    • Part V: Final drafts
This assignment is worth eighty (80) points in total.
  2. In-Class Writing. Class meetings sessions will include short, in-class writing assignments. Each day will vary, but I will regularly pose tasks intended to help me measure what you are learning in the class. This assignment is worth twenty (20) points in total.

In-Class Writing cannot be made up. If you miss multiple class sessions and are concerned about your grade, you may talk to me about your situation and what options you might have for offsetting points lost from this assignment.

Final grades will be assessed on a standard 100 point scale (93+ is an A; 90-92 is an A-; 87-89 is a B+; 83-86 is a B; 80-82 is a B-; 77-79 is a C+; 73-76 is a C; 70-72 is a C-; 67-69 is a D+; 63-66 is a D; 60-62 is a D-. Lower than 60 is an F).
