Project Description: Highly qualified staff is critical in providing educational opportunities for students especially when they have vision and hearing impairments. In order to assist in meeting this need The Teaching Research Institute at Western Oregon University (TRI/WOU) applied and received a personnel preparation grant from the Office of Special Education Program (OSEP). This grant supports Priority 2, "to improve the quality, and increase the number, of personnel who are fully credentialed, especially in areas of chronic personnel shortages." The overall goal of this project is to increase teacher leadership and networks across the nation that work with children who are deaf-blind. Ten partner universities and colleges select Helen Keller Fellow candidates and support the activities of the Fellowship. The ultimate outcome is to encourage new leadership in the field of deaf blindness through the opportunities to meet, interact, and work with experts in the field. |
