Historic Home and Museum Open to Public The Historic Gentle House will be open for viewing every Monday through the fall. You will have the opportunity to see the home and grounds, learn about its connection to the university, and find out what the home is used for now.

WOU & YOU Photo Contest Do you play sports? Do you work on campus? Is there a specific organization you're associated with on campus that makes your life wonderful? It doesn't matter what you do on campus, we want to know. If you're involved with art, theater, biology or computer sciences, take a picture and enter to win! Share your experience at WOU. This contest is a fundraiser for the WOU Non-Traditional Students and their families. The proceeds go towards basic needs (i.e. supplies for family lounges) and future events (i.e. prices for printing posters and event supplies). The contest is open to everyone in the WOU community. The winner will win a cash award! The application fee/photo entry cost is $3. If you win, you receive half of the admissions fee of the overall entry submissions. One winner only! One photo per entry! Applications are available at the information desk, via email and I will be tabling Monday (10.28, 11.4, and 11.11) from 11-1 p.m. in the WUC lobby.

Take Back the Night Join Abby's House for this annual event to raise awareness about domestic violence. This is an annual event to fight against violence and the fear of violence in our community. Scheduled events include: 6:30 pm Speaker from the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence in Corvallis, 7:00 pm Reflection time, 7:30 pm Prevention with Green Dot, 8:00 pm Candlelit walk through campus.

PeaceCorps visits WOU PeaceCorps representative Sarah Kassel will have an info info table in the East foyer of the WUC and an info session on campus that same day, Wednesday, October 30, 2-3 p.m., Columbia Room. Peace Corps is a 27 month commitment to one of 65 countries across the globe. As a volunteer, you will work in one of six sector areas, including education and health. You will also will be paid, receive full health and dental benefits, loan deferment, intensive training, graduate school benefits, federal employment benefits and more than $7,000 when you complete your service. Sound interesting? Apply now and be interviewed next Wednesday.

Safe Halls Safe Halls is an event hosted by RHA on Halloween that invites local children and their parents to the residents halls to Trick or Treat! AFAA Personal Fitness Trainer Certification For the aspiring and experienced fitness professional working one-on-one with exercise clients, this three-day certification workshop includes lectures, practical demonstration and both written and practical exams. It covers exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology and injury prevention. The course also includes fitness assessment testing procedures (3-minute step test, sit-and-reach, push-up/abdominal crunch, body composition screening with skin-fold caliper measurements), nutrition fundamentals and weight management, special populations and medical considerations, communication skills, leadership and motivational coaching, exercise programming in the weight room, and wellness programming and riskfactor assessment guidelines. The course objectives are consistent with those of the National Board of Fitness Examiners. Although this course will help prepare you for both AFAA's Personal Fitness Trainer Certification and the Personal Fitness Trainer National Boards, successful completion of the course does not guarantee you will pass either examination. Includes: 3-day Certification Workshop, Personal Fitness Trainer Certification v3 Study Guide (shipping additional), written and practical exams, One-year AFAA membership ($68 value) or membership extension to current members (includes TeleFitness? access number), subscription to American Fitness magazine (does not include postage to addresses outside the U.S.), AFAA Certified Personal Trainer certificate and I.D. card (upon successful completion of both examinations), and 15 CEUs towards previously achieved AFAA certifications. Prerequisites: Personal Fitness Training: Theory and Practice (2010) ($69+ shipping) is the recommended text for this workshop and is not included in the regular price. Current CPR/AED required before certification is issued. Weight training/weight room experience is recommended. Early registration and pre-study is suggested. On-site Admission Friday High school seniors and transfer students are invited to apply for fall 2014 admission during WOU's next On-site Admission Friday event. Students who provide an application for admission, $60 application fee or OUS Deferral Form and official transcripts will receive notification of their admission status. High school seniors without ACT or SAT scores can be admitted conditionally if they meet WOU's minimum grade point average requirement. Applications can be submitted from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students are also invited to participate in the 10:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. tour of campus. Advanced registration is not required to participate in the On-site Admission Friday event.
