"turned out" - paintings by Tishri Whiteside Salem artist, Tishri Whiteside, comes from an artistic family and developed her passion for creating art as a student of James Kirk. As a painter for many years, she is focused and humble about her work, stating, I'm always pleasantly surprised when something turns out. Her current collection on display this fall is an array of raw talent and delightful imagery that has turned out.

Todd Hall: Centennial Celebration The first student dormitory on campus was built in 1912 and later named after Jessica S. Todd, the college's first Dean of Women. Her ghost is rumored to still walk the hallways of the dormitory and nearby Senior Cottage. This fall WOU Archives displays historical artifacts and alumni memories surrounding the 100 years of this grand old building.

Starving Artists' Series - Jen Violi Guest speaker Jen Violi is a writer and a book coach, and the author of Putting Makeup on Dead People. Her heartfelt and funny debut Young Adult novel is a story of transformation ? how one girl learns to apply lipstick to corpses, and find life in the wake of death. Jen was afinalist for the 2012 Oregon Book Awards and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association called her prose "crisp, refreshing and effortless" when they shortlisted her novel for the 2012 PNBA Book Awards.

Halloween Safe Halls When: Halloween Night from 6pm to kiddos' bed times (about 9pm-ish) Where: Arbor Park Apartments and Ackerman, Heritage, Landers, and Barnum/Butler/Gentle residence halls Who's Invited: YOU! And your families! And the Monmouth-Independence Communities! (If you have children in the school district, they received a notice at school earlier this week). Costumes are encouraged for youth of ALL ages, including you! What's Happening: Many many many fun [inside and outside] activities detailed below. Basically, great family-friendly activities including trick-or-treat. Philanthropy: If you have a few dollars to spare, you and/or your children are encourage to pie a few college students (and me, their advisor) in the face! Doesn't that sound like a hoot? Student leaders within the residence hall community will be departing in 2 weeks for a regional student leader conference at San Jose State University. To reduce the per-person cost (which is about $500), we will be hosting a "Pie Your RHA" as one activity at the event.
