Meet our current board members below. The board of directors helps plan and implement alumni programs and events and meets three to four times per year.

Our MissionThe Western Oregon University Alumni Association exists to unite in fellowship, promote goodwill in the community, and strengthen our pride and loyalty as Wolves, while increasing the involvement and support in the university and the advancement of future generations of WOU alumni.

Ron Clark '83, Past President

Ron earned his B.S. in Social Science from WOU in 1983. He then went to law school at Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College graduating cum laude, and received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1987. He is a Partner at the Portland, Oregon law firm of Bullivant, Houser, Bailey where he focuses his practice on Litigation (insurance coverage, bad faith, product liability, general tort defense). Ron’s wife (Kathy Selberg ’83) is also a WOU alum, and they live in Beaverton with their two children, Nathan and Kelcee.

Ashley (Zentz) Fink '07, Secretary

Ashley Fink graduated from Western Oregon University with a B.A. in Education with an emphasis on Secondary level Language Arts in 2007. Continuing her education on WOU turf, she completed in 2009 a Masters of Science in Education adding an ESOL endorsement and Middle Level credentials for teaching Social Studies. This native Oregonian has remained in her roots of Polk County living with her husband Daniel (a graduate of the Art Institute of Portland) and their cat, Simon. She substitute taught for a few years before setting up a classroom of her own at Santiam Christian Schools in the Adair Village, where she now teaches ninth and tenth grade students English and Global Studies. She assists in planning events where alumni may reunite, socialize and connect to a network of many professionals who share a background of WOU. Currently, she serves as the Alumni Board secretary and is very active in her church on the worship team and other ministry groups.

Calrk Hamor

Clark Hamor '77,President Elect

Clark earned his B.A. in Education from the University of Montana in 1958. He then went on to receive his Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan in '66 and his Masters in Education from OCE (now WOU) in '77. Clark spent 36 years as a library/media specialist with experience at the K-12, community college, and university levels. Since his retirement in 1994, he has been volunteering his time with Western Oregon University, The University of Montana, Marion County Sheriff's Office, Travel Salem, and as a Salem Chamber Ambassador. He and his wife Donna (also a WOU alum) reside in Salem and have 2 grown children Craig, and Cheri.

Nick Hurley '96

Nick earned his BS in American Sign Language/English Interpretation from WOU where he worked for 4 years in the Residential Life program. He went on to earn his Masters of Education in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University in 1999. Nick has been a Police Officer for the past 11 years focusing efforts on Greek students-Police relations and overuse/abuse of alcohol. Nick served on The Partnership a community coalition to reduce alcohol related issues. In his free time Nick enjoys ocean fishing and is completing his Merchant Mariners Masters Captains license with the USCG.

Paul Kyllo '79

Paul Kyllo '79, President

Paul Graduated with a B.S. in Math Education in 1979. Paul graduated from OCE in 1979 with a degree in Math/Education. He retired after twenty years of serving the members of the Oregon Education Association as a UniServ Consultant. In May 2013 he was elected to the Salem-Keizer School Board of Directors. He became the Alumni Board President on June 8, 2013.

Nick Mausen '67 '72

Nick Mausen '67, '72, Ex-Officio

Nick married Patricia Benton ’68 in 1968. He has two daughters and two granddaughters. Nick taught Language Arts and was a counselor and coach for 4 years. In 1971, he began a 31-year administrative career in public education, first as a principal, then as Director of Student Services. Nick is now retired and has an educational consulting business in Salem.

Tara Preston '10

Tara graduated with a B.A. in Art in 2010.  After graduation from WOU she interned as graphic artist with the Salem Art Association.  Tara has been working as program assistant at Travel Salem the convention and visitors association for Marion and Polk counties since November 2010.  Tara is an emerging artist with multiple group & solo shows. Tara lives in Independence, Oregon and her hobbies include: gardening, reading and hiking.

Jon Scheirman '99

Jon is a third generation graduate from WOU and earned his BS in Fire Service Administration from WOU in 1999. He works for Clackamas Fire District #1 where he is the Station Captain at the Mt. Scott Station. Jon met his wife Lisa while at WOU, they had their first son, Aden, in October of 2010, and still reside in Monmouth. Jon is an Elder at Monmouth Christian Church, an avid runner and reader, and enjoys wakeboarding and jet skiing.

Lisa Scheirman '99 '00

Lisa is a Realtor and has been since 2005. She also has been a police officer since 2000. Lisa ran cross country at WOU and continues to run competitively with an all women's running group out of Salem.Lisa met her husband, Jonathan Scheirman, at WOU and they recently had their first son in October of 2010. Lisa is active in her church and helps to lead small group classes, such as marriage classes and Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. Lisa also enjoys gardening and water sports.

Mary (Abushaar) Trolan '73, '90

Mary was an English Language Acquisition Specialist withthe Salem-Keizer School District in Salem, OR. She was also a SIOP trainer for the district. Previously, Mary worked for Central District 13J as a Language Arts/ESL/ French teacher at the high school. Mary is involved in community activities and is an avid supporter of human rights and peace and justice issues. Mary enjoys traveling, reading and babysitting grandchildren. Mary is now retired.

Jason Yutzie '00

Jason lives in Albany with his wife Staci who is also a graduate of WOU, and their four year old son Braxton.  They enjoy traveling, playing on the sand dunes, and classic cars.  Jason is currently a city councilor for Millersburg and recently joined the board of the ABC House, the advocacy center in Linn and Benton counties.
