New Tenure Track Appointments for Fall of 2013

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to welcome our new tenure-track faculty:

 

Paula Baldwin joins the Division of Humanities as an Assistant Professor of Communication.  She earned her PhD at George Mason University, and comes to us after completing a post-doctoral position at the University of Missouri.  An expert in health communications, her research focuses on interpersonal and family communication issues that arise during end of life care.

 

Jaime Cloud joins the Division of Behavioral Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Psychology.  She earned her PhD from the University of Texas.  Her research focuses on evolutionary psychology and the navigation of social hierarchies.  Most recently, she was an Assistant Professor at Birmingham-Southern College.

 

Kathleen Connolly joins the Division of Humanities as an Assistant Professor of Spanish.  She earned her PhD at the University of Wisconsin, where she focused on contemporary Spanish literature, film and culture.  While at Madison, she taught both language and literature courses.

 

Stephanie Hoover joins the Division of Behavioral Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Psychology.  She earned her PhD from the University of Utah, and most recently was a counseling intern at the University of Central Florida’s Counseling and Psychological Services.  Her research focuses on multiculturalism in Counseling Psychology and the development of an identity as an advocate for social justice.

 

Bojan Ilievaski joins the Division of Business and Economics as an Assistant Professor of Economics.  He earned his PhD in Economics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  Prior to joining us, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Albion College in Michigan.  His areas of specialty include financial economics, macroeconomics and monetary economics.

 

Justin Lewis joins the Division of Humanities as an Assistant Professor of Digital Writing.  He earned his PhD at Syracuse University where he focused on digital writing, technical communication and the digital humanities.  Before coming to WOU, he taught at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as well as in the Writing Program at Syracuse.

 

Margaret Manoogian, who has been with us since 2011 as a Visiting Professor of Gerontology, has moved to a tenure-track position in the Division of Behavioral Sciences.  Now Associate Professor, she earned her PhD from Oregon State University, and taught at Ohio University before joining WOU.  Using life course and feminist perspectives, her research investigates intergenerational relationships between adult children and older parents.

 

Matthew Nabity, who has been with us since 2011 as a Visiting Professor of Mathematics, has moved to a tenure-track position.  Now an Assistant Professor, he earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado at Denver.  His research focuses on numerical linear algebra, modeling and STEM education.

 

Elizabeth Swedo joins the Division of Social Sciences at an Assistant Professor of History.  She earned her PhD from the University of Minnesota.  An Icelandic scholar, her research examines how cultures adapt to and integrate religious reforms.  Before coming to WOU, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of Wooster.

 

Robert Troyer, who has been with the Division of Humanities since 2007, has moved to a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Linguistics. He earned his PhD in Linguistics from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok while teaching at the university's Language Institute; his dissertation research combined literary stylistics, Southeast Asian Literature, and cross-cultural comparison. In addition to teaching linguistics courses, Rob puts his expertise with English as a second language into practice as Director of WOU's Office of International Student Academic Support.
