Day 1 Assignment

Before class Wed 10/1

Write a draft letter to your buddy

Before Class Thurs 10/2

Keep an eye on your email for comments on your letters from me or my assistant Sally.

•  Promptly address comments. If you wait more than a day to resolve a comment you will be marked down.

•  Once you have adequately addressed a comment click "resolve".

•  If you disagree with a comment, click on the comment and a reply box will appear below. Explain your disagreement and then click “reply”.

•  Once your comments have all been resolved. I (or Sally) will reread your letter. If we feel your letter still needs work we will write more comments and we repeat this process.

•  When I (or Sally) feel your letter is done we will comment "Ready to print". This means you are done. You will print your letter and bring it to class on Monday.

If you do not get comments right away, please be patient – we have over 30 to do.
Monday, 10/6 -- Monday, 10/13
Using the official state scoring guide score the work of your buddy(s) and your partners' buddy(s) (here). Circle the scores on the page and bring them along with your copy of the scoring guide to class on Wednesday for the scoring workshop. Before class Wed. 10/8
Remember Wednesday 10/8 is our Scoring Workshop - Do Not Miss! Meet in the Willamette Room @ 10am
Using the official state scoring guide re-score the work of your buddy(s) and each of your partners' buddy(s) (here) using a scoring sheet and following the directions in the scoring guide directions.

Bring completed to class on Thurs. 10/9

Finish revising your letters on the Google drive.

Text HWK #1 : Ch. 1 Set A: 2, 7, 13; Ch. 2 Set A: 4,6,10 Thurs. 10/16 2:00 pm

Over the weekend, go to the Google Drive and do the following:

  • Read you own buddy letters and their work on the Jewel problem
  • Score your buddy(ies) work using the Response Process.
  • Draft a letter to your own buddy using the directions in the Response Process form. Write the letters on the Google Drive as before.
  • Read your WOU Partner buddy work and score their buddy(ies) work

Mon. 10/20 @ beginning of class

Comment on your assigned WOU Partner buddy's letters. You will be graded on:

  • The quality of your comments on your WOU partner's letters
Tuesday 10/21 @ noon

Group Journal Quiz (the article was passed out in class but is also available on our google drive).

You MUST bring a page of notes about the article to class in order to take your quiz with a group; otherwise you will have to work alone.

Wed. 10/22 in class
Text HWK #2: Chapter 3 Set A: 5,7; Classic 17; Set B: 4 Wed. 10/22 @2pm

Group Journal Quiz (the article will be passed out in class but is also available on our google drive).

You MUST bring a page of notes about the article to class in order to take your quiz with a group; otherwise you will have to work alone.

Text HWK #3 Chapter 6 Set A: 4,7,10,12
Do each problem two ways:

  1. Using an organized guess and check table.
  2. Using algebra.
It should be clear how your algebraic equation relates to your table.

Draft of letter to buddies

  • This letter is will be more general in nature than the last letter. You will not be trying to help them fix all their mistakes in this letter
  • Refer to the linked document when writing this letter

Score on your own buddies and your partner's buddies and defend your scores in the comment section of the scoring sheet Monday 11/3 in class

Write buddy letter(s) using these guidelines. (No help on their work this time!)

Tues. 11/11 midnight

You have the same WOU partners

Comment on your partners letter(s) making sure they follow the letter guidelines. If you fail to correct a mistake they made both of you will lose points.

Wed. 11/12 midnight
Score the work of your buddy and your WOU partners buddy(s) using a scoring sheet with the scoring directions guide. Wed. 11/12 4:30 pm
Revise your letters based on your partner's comments. If you want me to look at your letter, email me and let me know by Thursday 8am . Thursday 11/13
Print final letter(s) and bring to class Thursday 11/13 @ beginning of class
   
Bring copies (printed or electronic) of all problems or worksheets to be used in the fun fair if applicable to your group Thursday 11/20 @ beginning of class
