Images on the Internet

From flickr
  1. Type www.flickr.com into the address bar and press Return
  2. Type in a search term of your choosing and click on Search
  3. On the next screen, click on Advanced Search (upper right corner)
  4. Scroll down the page to Creative Commons and check:
    • Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content
    • Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon
  5. Click Search
  6. Click on the picture you want to download
  7. When the larger picture opens, click on three small rings on right side, the Download/All sizes. If possible, click All Sizes
  8. Click on desired size relative to your needs
  9. Click and drag onto your desktop or into the desired application eg Photoshop
  10. Note citation information (name of picture, and URL)

Using Google

  1. Go to Google.com
  2. Click on the Images button
  3. Type a search term in the Search box to locate the image you want
  4. When the images appear, double-click on an image to see a larger version
  5. When you find an image you want, click and drag images onto your desktop or into the desired application eg Photoshop
  6. Change the name to something you will recognize.
  7. Note citation information (name of picture, and URL)

  8. Note: If you are currently working in another document and want to insert your image in the document, you may select "Copy Image," then toggle back to your open document and choose Edit>Paste.

Uploading to Flickr

Preparing your photo to publish
  1. In PhotoShop, with your montage open, Choose File>Save As
  2. In the Format box, change the format to JPEG
  3. Change the 3-letter extension on your file name (in the Save As box) to .jpg (if necessary)
  4. Click Save

Publishing on Flickr
  1. Go to www.flickr.com and create a new account
  2. Be sure to use your Gmail account when they ask for your email reference
  3. Once you have an account, login, click on the Groups link at the top of your page and select Find a Group.
  4. In the search box, type: (group name as assigned in class)
  5. Click on the link to desired group
  6. Next to Group Pool, it will say Only Members can add to the pool. Click the Join? Link
  7. Your name will appear in the group. Only the Administrator can see it. I will approve you within one day.
  8. You may publish your collage.
  9. Note: Add your login information to your Login Chart. You should now have a login and password for both Gmail and Yahoo.

Upload your Photo Montage to Flickr
  1. Log in to your Flickr account
  2. Click on Upload photos to Flickr
  3. On the page that opens, click Upload Photos & Video
  4. On the next page, click on Choose photos and videos
  5. Locate your photo Collage (be sure to choose the one with the .jpg extension) and click Select
  6. Under Set Privacy, Select Private, and Visible to Friends
  7. Click Upload Photos and Videos
  8. Click add a description
  9. Give your picture a Title
  10. Under Description, tell us what part of the picture is scanned, what is from the Internet, and what is taken with a camera. Also, add the citation information from your Flickr photo (photo name, URL)
  11. Add tags if desired (keywords to search by)
  12. Click Save
  13. From the Groups menu (at the top of the page) select Your Groups
  14. Next to Group Pool, select Add Photos
  15. This will open your Photostream. Click on your photo montage.
  16. Click Add to Group
  17. When you return to the ED421 winter homepage, your photo should now be visible

Comment on your classmates montages
  1. You should now be able to see the montages made by all of your classmates.
  2. Please make comments on five (5) montages: What do you like? What might improve the montage? Does this look realistic? Could you be fooled?
  3. Try to be the first person to comment on one picture.
  4. When you make your last comment, try to find a picture that still needs a 5th comment.
  5. Review the comments that classmates have made on your picture.
