Pelco DS on VM

Pelco's DS software seems to be running very smooth and has been stable for the last month on a VM server. We only have a few cameras on it but seems to be running flawlessly.

The Rouge Finder

Myron and I have made some good progress on the Rouge Finder last thursday. This application is being written in Python. We are currently working through the parsing of the DHCP Locater log. Our next step is to ping and arp any found IP and then email the results back to us.

New Student Week

It looks like this year might be the biggest move in of freshman in my five years working here at WOU. We are looking at about 1500 students. We will be hoping for a smooth computer registration this year. We have an updated Cisco Clean Access Server and it should make the process of registering the student much nicer.

Housing Move

The University Housing department will be moving this fall to Ackerman Hall, the new resident facility. The resident hall is being constructed to meet lead platinum qualifications. The move will need to be very coordinated as we are getting ready for new student week.

Electronics Checkout

RA and other student activity groups will now have access to a new Portal application where they can request electronic equipment from Housing. Students can pick a day and see a list of equipment that is available; they then can select multiple items to checkout. This app with then notify housing so the equipment can be ready for pickup. This process also helps create a history of item checkouts for the student as well as the housing office.

Personal Development

Thursday mornings we will start doing personal Development again. We will be looking for new ideas and researching various hardware/software to see how we may be able to use it to further grow our department.

Landers Lab Staffing

This Fall the Landers Lab will be hiring two student workers to extend our open lab hours. Tentatively the Lab hours will change from M-F 2pm - 6pm to the new hours M-F 2pm 10pm and Sunday 5pm to 10pm.

OURBay

Today we will be re-launching OURBay. OURBay is a website dedicated to the Governor's Food Drive. Items are auctioned off to members of the WOU campus. These items have ranged form Dinners, to jewelry, to Portland Trail Blazer tickets. We are hoping to continue the tradition of putting WOU at the top of the list for donations from the higher education facilities.

Rogue Routers

Myron and myself have been working on a system designed to find and track rogue routers here on the WOU campus. We are setting up a program to detect, gather information, and report these routers to us. We have tested some preliminary aspects to confirm concepts we have talked about. We are still in the planning phase and plan on talking to Paul regarding the integration of this system with What's Up gold.

File I/O issue

Today I came into work and found that my overnight processes from Oracle had not ran. After testing I came to the conclusion that Oracle as well as the server these processes communicated with could not see the file system. Mike was able to determine a job had failed over night but the Oracle database looked to be running fine with no errors. This help me confirm it was an issue with the location of our exports and imports. I contacted Dave and he was aware that a data storage location had been moved from one server to another and was able to provide me with the new location. He also fixed the location path on the UNIX end to point to the new location. After I made my changes the Oracle jobs ran with out a hitch...

SPOT

Spot is a training tool for the UCS programming staff. It goes from basic HTML to PL/SQL and how to program for our WOU Portal.

Pros:
Very well structured.
Easy to follow and learn.
Able to continue where you left off was very usefull.
Quiz after each section tracks scores and makes you pass a certain percentage before moving on.

Cons:
Most of the Text boxes used to try examples would not work for me, nothing showed up.
After taking a quiz I could not continue. I had to return to the menu to go on, even after scoring 100%.
HTML suggested the over the method for bolding.
Menu on Integration:
Lists Intro ->Wou_UTIL Bells & Whistles -> Portal Security -> Portal groups
But actually went like this for me.
Bells and whistles -> Basic -> Tips_N_Tricks Table - QUIZ
Could not take last quiz, never went to it.

New Blog

Today for staff development I decided to update my Blog. I wanted to give it a new look and feel, so I migrated it over to the same layout as Biran. So far so good. Now just to test new entries and Archiving.

First attempt ended up undoing all my changes. So lets try again...
