Carbohydrates are a major source of energy. They contain the important nutrients of vitamin B and iron. They are our largest category of the food pyramid and it is suggested that the average person eat 6-11 servings each day. Examples of carbohydrates are: bread, rice, cereal, and pasta.

Some examples of a serving size are:

  • 1/2 bagel or english muffin
  • 1 ounce cold cereal
  • 1/2 cup cooked ceral
  • 1 slice bread
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
