UCS Makes Some Changes
The UCS department has made some organization changes, and these changes have resulted in physical moves for some of the staff. I am excited that Dale Goodell will be moving down here to the Physical Plant with me. The two of us will have responsibility for maintaining the university's Oracle databases, in addition to our regular programming duties.
The department has been divided into functional areas, and a manager for each area was named. Bill K. remains as the UCS Director. Travis is the Assistant Director and the Systems Team manager. Michael Ellis is the Programming Manager. I am the Auxilliary Team and DBA manager. The programmers will be in the area where Summer, Alex, Paul and Travis are now. The systems folks will all be back in Joe's area. Joanie and the receiving area are moving into the space where Dale and Ron are.
The reorganization is an effort to group persons doing the same type of work together, and to add in another level of management to have more direct control over the many projects that UCS is constantly working on. Also, we need to accommodate the new members of UCS - Teresa Bybee, Bill Nix, Ken Sauer, and Stewart Gilbert.
One thing about the world of IT - it is never dull!

Hello Again Blogging World
Well, after a long absence it's time to update the old Blog. At the bookstore, things have changed. There is a new director, Mark Lane. Kristi took another job at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington. Welcome to Mark!
Another personnel change is that Gloria Hart is also moving to Washington, and the Physical Plant's own Dave Morris is taking her place.
We still use the MBS system, and the Boat Anchor (our pet name for the IBM 270 server) is plugging away. Our new cash register is working really well. It's the one everyone wants to use. The retired register gave us a bunch of extra parts, and it's a good thing as one register went totally dead toward the end of rush week. Hopefully, we can purchase another cash register in the near future. We did not blow out another modem, and the Bookstore web site using the Insite product is a real improvement. It is nearly always up, and the Insite servers are much more powerful than the Boat Anchor.
So, there it is in a nutshell. Stop by the bookstore and pick up a good book, or a nice WOU t-shirt or sweatshirt!
