Career

As of right now I am planning on becoming an rehabilitation specialist. I'm not 100% sure if you need it but I will go for it anyway, I plan on getting my Master's as soon as I get my Bachelor's.The classes I have chosen are very relavent to my career. I have taken 4 years of ASL which will just make me more marketable. I have great people skills and enjoy working with and being involved with people. Even though it is serving as a LACC requirement, my anthropology class does a lot of discussing which is helping me for my career by preparing me to be able to listen and possibly even understand other peoples opinions. Another learning experience I have had that others may not get is going through rehabilitation therapy myself. I have gotten a rare glimpse "inside of the circle" so to speak. I believe this is what has prepared me the most for my future career.

Advice for Next Year WOU Freshman Students

My advice for next year's entering freshmen is first, don't start out with more than you can handle. This can cause unnecessary stress for yourself. Then, find a quiet place where you can be alone and focus on your studies. If you're not by yourself you tend to get easily distracted. Also try to remove any unnecessary distractions such as; radio, TV, iPod, food, etc. Even if you're by yourself unnecessary distractions can make studying very difficult. I have learned these lessons the hard way. I often feel very stressed because of my class schedule. I also tend to get very distracted while studying if I have any interferences. Always keep a positive attitude, and you will succeed.

Time Management-Studying

I only have 4 classes this term and am not overloaded with studying. However, I do usually use the time between classes to study and usually spend all in all about an 1 1/2 hours on homework and studying each night. The biggest obstacle I have is trying to stay on top of my studies (which is priority #1), and trying to find time to enjoy life and get the WHOLE college expirence. This doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone else in my dorm, and I find myself quite envious at times. In the article I found 2 things I can relate to. First, I have been seeking balance in my classes. My doctor back home said that I should not put any unneccessary stress on myself and not to overload myself on classes. That is why I only have 4 classes, 14 credits. Second is not wasting the daytime. When I was registering for classes in July I thought I was being smart scheduling all my classes in the afternoon, boy was I WRONG. Now all my dorm mates come back to the dorm as I am leaving for class, and I wish I was done for the day just like they are.

My First 2 Weeks at WOU

Today I successfully end my first 2 weeks of classes at WOU. I LOVE the college life. It reminds me a lot of high school. My anthropology class is not hard at all, the professor is great and it helps that my RA has that class with me. I get bored in ASL because the professor just seems to be going over stuff I learned in my first and second year. Then, in english drama time seems to go buy sooo slowly. When the professor lectures it gets hard to pay attention because he goes on and on on one topic. The cliche' of beating a dead horse comes to mind. However' I would not change any of my classes. I am getting to know my professors and they are very accommadating and willing to work with me. To sum it all I love being in college and living the college life style.
