Retreat for Deaf-Blind
Seabeck, Washington
August 23 - 30, 2008

One of my teammates said that a week at Seabeck is like a month anywhere else. I would have to agree. The week I spent as a volunteer Service Support Provider (SSP) has taught me more than I could have learned in any classroom. I had the honor of working with four individuals that are Deaf-Blind throughout the week. Three out of the four used a tactile form of sign language. The age ranges were 25 to 59 and their language use was as unique as their personalities. Each person touched my heart and taught me more about life. The experience was enriched by sharing it with a group of 13 other amazing students. We were there to support each other through the challenges as well as celebrate the successes.
