I've prepared a report on History materials acquired by the library in 2008-09. The report is in Microsoft Excel format: History_08-09.xls.

Please note that the file contains several separate worksheets: a list of books and audiovisual materials acquired, an accounting of funds allocated and expended, and lists of journal subscriptions and monographic standing orders that were paid in 2008-09.

During the month of April, Alexander Street Press offered free access to their new American History in Video database. I spent a few hours exploring. Here are my impressions.

This past summer, the company EBSCO purchased the America: History & Life and Historical Abstracts databases. Today, we were notified that these two databases can now be searched using the EBSCOhost interface. This is the same interface used for many of our other databases, including Academic Search Premier. We switched the links on our database page to point to the EBSCOhost version effective today.

We anticipate that the older interface will continue to be available until at least December 2007. If you prefer to use that interface, use the following links:

The publisher of the Journal of Modern History (The University of Chicago Press) has notified us that they are changing their pricing model starting in 2007. For the past several years, we have enjoyed free online access to the electronic version of this journal on the basis of our continuing print subscription. The publisher is no longer offering this option. I need a response from you by December 8, 2006 about how you would like us to handle this subscription.

Welcome back History faculty! I hope each of you had a pleasant and productive summer.

For your information, I have created a list of the materials that I purchased last year using funds allocated for your department. Click on the link below to access the list:

If you have questions or comments about anything you see in this list, feel free to post a comment here on my blog, or e-mail me at lincics@wou.edu

Departmental allocations for 2005-06 will be made as soon as we're able to crunch the fall class enrollment numbers. I'll be in touch when I have more details. In the meantime, please let me know about any purchase requests you have.

Thanks,

Shirley
