Update on access to sound recordings at Hamersly Library
As you may recall, the library purchased a core collection of nearly 2000 sound recordings on CD in June 2005. To date, approximately half of these recordings have been cataloged and made available for check out. Click here:
Sound recordings in WOLF to see a listing of the materials currently available.
In June 2006, we purchased a collection of 87 World music CDs from the Smithsonian Folkways catalog.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Shirley at 8-8890 or lincics@wou.edu
We purchased 5 core collections, including: Jazz, Rock & Roll, Western Classical, Musical Theatre, and Rhythm & Blues. The Jazz collection is fully cataloged and available, and we expect to finish processing the Rock & Roll collection shortly. Selected materials from the other collections are available, but much work remains to get these materials fully cataloged. If you are looking for a recording of a work in the Classical, Musical, R&B, or World genres, please check with me because we can rush process the item and get it to you (usually within 24 hours) if we have it here.
Why the delay in getting these materials cataloged and out to the shelves? Last fall, we lost our Cataloging Assistant to Eastern Washington University. We have now hired and trained a new Cataloging Assistant, so we should be able to make better progress this year.
