Thanks to lots of hard work by Kyle's mom, we were able to spend several nights
in Udaipur at the world-famous Lake Palace Hotel. Our stay here was one of the
highlights of our trip, even though I was sick with tonsilitis during much of
our stay. As you can see, the hotel sits right in the middle of a lake and is
accessible only by boat. It was originally built as a summer palace for the
Maharana of the region. We visited in August and you could really appreciate
the wisdom of building a palace surrounded by the relatively cool water of the
lake--it provides great natural air conditioning!
Lily Pond at the Lake Palace Hotel

As seen in the video, the inner courtyard of the palace contains a large lily pond. The first night At night, the lily pond at the hotel is especially beautiful. During the first night of our stay, the current Maharana (who still technically owns the property) hosted a small dinner party for some friends here. Too bad we weren't invited! |

This was the view out of the window of our room at the hotel. The current Maharana lives in part of this huge palace. The rest is a historic site and museum.
