La Rambla

We met Bonnie and Michael at La Rambla in McMinnville tonight. It was a delicious dinner in a beautiful but relaxed setting. The tapas dishes I rate as fabulous are the Tortas de Setas (little rounds of puff pastry topped with sliced tomato, diced wild mushrooms, roasted garlic and Pastor Picon cheese. I think the cheese and perhaps the garlic comprised the creamy sauce that was drizzled on top of the mushrooms); Chipirones a la Romana (tender fried calamari with a great lemon aioli); and the Salmon Ahumado con Rabanos (lightly smoked salmon strips with greens, dates, and vinegrette. The Churros con Chocolate (moist cinnamon doughnut "fingers" with warm chocolate sauce) are also outstanding.

Beyond those first-tier plates, the other good dishes we shared were the seafood paella, the beef skewers, turkey meatballs (the warm paprika-tomato sauce is great--maybe try it in the goat cheese dish next time), and the warm chocolate molten cake with raspberry puree.

The batter-fried green beans and the crab & goat cheese stuffed peppers were disappointingly tasteless.

Extensive wine list (I had a good syrah by the glass), a couple of beers on tap--both of which Kerry likes) and a full bar. Great service. We'll definately return.
