The idea behind the course is to make students aware of a few global issues that are spatial--as opposed to issues such as inflation that are not necessarily spatial in nature.  The catalog description of the course is: A study of selected and current international issues and problems within the geographical context in which they are observed. Issues to be discussed depends on the instructor.

The Learning Process:

Learning will be constructed rather than received; i.e., I will not yap, er, lecture all the time.  Instead, we will make use of Web pages (thanks to smart classrooms), and videos, along with informed discussions in the class.  By critically thinking through the ideas, we will construct our understanding of some of the important global issues.

Outcomes:

What do I want students to get from this course?

A student who barely passes with a D will at least know something about some of the major current global issues.
Students who earn a C will be able to have conversations where they will come across as people who are quite informed about some of the major current global issues.
Students who earn a B will easily convince others that they are very well informed about the global issues.
Students who earn an A in the course will have no problems convincing the world that they can critically think about global issues.
