Migration -- 2005

To date, departments migrated from the aviation to the mash domain include UCS, Business Office, Public Safety, Telecommunications, VP Finance and Administration, Human Resources, Budget / Payroll, Bookstore, DEP and SEP.

Next week UCS will migrate all students enrolled for fall term but not registered for summer term. Between the end of summer term and the start of fall term, the remaining “active students will be migrated. Also during this time period, all the lab computers will be re-ghosted and will only have access to the new domain.

My goal is to have all campus workstations migrated by the start of fall term. I am requesting your permission to migrate your workstation and data during the summer. Please go on-line and fill out the “Domain Migration form.

What is included in the migration?
-- all your server data is moved from aviation to mash (H drive, I drive, etc.)
-- the physical data is being moved from a system that has 99.9% reliability to a system has 99.999% reliability
-- the new physical server is significantly faster than the previous server
-- the new server and storage system can be significantly expanded on demand
-- there are two domain controllers rather than one
-- the tape backup attached to the new system is significantly faster
-- all your historical e-mail will be moved
-- UCS will support both Communication Express and Outlook 2003
-- e-mail logins are secure on the new e-mail system when using Communication Express
