Die Heute Journal, or "The Today Journal," is a daily news program which can be viewed on the the German TV station "ZDF." This broadcast covers a wide range of topics, as you might guess a typical news program would cover. Not only is it important for the viewers of this program to look at what topics are being presented in the news, but it is also important to look at how they are presented. What I would suggest that you do, even if your German is not very good, you should go to this broadcast's website and view one of their videos. They archive their individual stories and entire broadcasts on a daily basis, so if you ever miss the news you can always go online and see the video again. While watching the videos, please pay special attention to how the news is visually depicted. One thing you will notice is that it is much more graphic than American news. In American news, they will tell you that a bomb was reported and that the police tried to defuse it but it ended up blowing up and killing the officer. In the German news, they will show you the video of the policeman trying to defuse the bomb, and having it blow up in his face.
