Introductory Cultural Geography
This class is an introduction to cultural geography. The keywords for the term are "place", "landscape", and "mobility".

Learning Outcomes: This course focuses on two of the learning outcomes for geography at Western Oregon, that students will:

  • Understand the role of geography in society.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the nature and significance of human-environment relations.

More particularly, by the end of the term students will:

  • Have an expanded "toolbox" of geographic vocabulary and concepts for use in thinking and communicating about the world.
  • Be able to think and communicate about "place", "landscape", and "mobility" critically and academically.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of place, landscape, and mobility to everyday life and social interaction.

Format: Class sessions will involve combinations of lecture and discussion. The course is organized so that discussion of reading assignments will precede lectures. Lectures will be at least partly organized to address student questions and interests in the reading.
