Graded Assignments
Grades will be based on the following assignments:
- Structured discussion. Before each reading assignment, I will assign questions or topics for you to react to. You are responsible for writing short responses to these questions and topics. I will collect and grade these assignments. Responses should clearly indicate a sincere attempt to engage with assigned reading. They will also be the foundation for class discussions. If you miss a class meeting, you can send me your reactions via e-mail or to my campus mailbox in Maaske 217. I should receive these by the end of the class session you will be missing. This assignment is worth 2 points per week, 20 for the term.
- Social bookmarking. I have established a class account on the bookmarking site del.icio.us. This site will be used to share resources related to class material. The assignment is explained in detail on a separate handout. This assignment is worth 25 points.
- Exams. There are three exams in this class, one after each major section. Exams will be conducted in class and will be preceded by a study guide which will be posted at least 5 days in advance of the exam date. Exams will include both short answer and longer form questions and tasks. Details to be provided with the first study guide. The first exam is worth 10, the second 15, and the third 20, for a total of 45.
- Learning assessments. These are short tasks or questions that I will generally present at the end of the week. Their purpose is to help me gage what you're learning week-to-week. Each assessment is worth 1 point, and 10 in total.
Final grades will be assessed on a standard 100 point scale (93+ is an A; 90-92 is an A-; 87-89 is a B+; 83-86 is a B; 80-82 is a B-; 77-79 is a C+; 73-76 is a C; 70-72 is a C-; 67-69 is a D+; 63-66 is a D; 60-62 is a D-. Lower than 60 is an F).
