Eng 104/Fiction is designed to provide students practice with the critical reading tools for analyzing prose fiction. Those skills are developed through reading a variety of fiction-traditional and modern, short and long-and practicing how to recognize and analyze literary tools such as symbolism, character development, plot structure, etc. This practice will take place both in class in groups and out of class on your own. In the process, we will also discuss how reading literature teaches us about our history, our society, and our selves.

Grading:
15% Participation-attendance, in-class worksheets, group work in class, etc.
48% Outside-class worksheets-6 worksheets @ 8% each
17% Short paper
20% Final exam-10% essay, 10% Scantron test
