Recently in Oracle Migrations Category

Mike Ross and I worked much of the morning trying to fix some issues with the Online Admissions Form. We had discussed the idea of migrating the existing application from Wilbur to Aero within the next week or so, but have decided that it will be best to simply re-write the program. The existing application was originally developed using WebDB, which is non-standard in our current development environment.

We dealt with two issues this morning. First, the SSL certificate had expired on Wilbur back in March of 2005 (yes, that's a long time, relatively speaking). We are working with Travis and Bill to get this updated, at least in a temporary manner on Wilbur for the meantime. We also fixed some problems with broken images within the application. The problem is that the images have somehow been deleted and are nowhere to be found. To correct the broken links, we simply removed them from the HTML within the application.

Mike Ross, Michael Soukup and I completed the migration of the Safety schema from Wilbur to Aero on Tuesday afternoon. The migration only took about 10 minutes to finish. We had anticipated the project taking longer, possibly going into the evening. Mike Ross had done quite a bit of preparation and preliminary work for this migration, such as configuring the table space and structure, as well as the sequences, on Aero a few weeks ago. The moving of the data was quick and easy for him.

For my part, I took care of the Security package residing on Wilbur, placing a redirect within the login_show procedure that will take users to the corresponding package and procedure on Aero. I also added a line of code to this and every other procedure within the Security package that will send an email to Mike Ross whenever an end-user tries to run that procedure.

I have been working with a student, Will Drury, on this project, as well as Camila Gabaldon of Library and Media Services. We have most Library-specific applications migrated to date.
