Introduction to Curricular Solutions Strand

After having completed strand 1 and all associated units above... you've examined carefully Mark's solution to the fundamental curricular challenge - how to motivate and engage to maximize learning in the classroom. Now... as good as these ideas may be (smile) there are certainly other ideas out there about how to make learning more meaningful, more engaging, and more substantial. In this strand your task it to pick two of the four optional units and study these solutios to the fundamental curricular challenge more in-depth. The other solutions are things you've heard:

  • Option A: Technological solutions and teaching the neo-millennial generation
  • Option B: Problem-based learning
  • Option C: Service learning
  • Option D: Big ideas redux - if you really liked the teaching with big ideas suggestions, pick this unit to explore further

The idea is to spend some time thinking about what you will do as a designer of curricula and learning environments to more strategically engage middle level learners. You will demonstrate your thoughtfulness in this regard by participating in the WebCT discussion associated with the Options you choose and by completing two Optional Solution Unit Sketch assignment (see 670 home).

Send your first Optional Unit Solution Sketch to Mark via email by midnight on Friday, August 17th!
