Dreamweaver and Contribute - files locked

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Both Dreamweavear and Contribute have methods to check out a file and leave a flag on the network that does not allow other users of this software to make edits while it is "checked out". Unfortunately this flag file does not always go away when the content provider is done making the changes. Read the following email and response on how to deal with this issue.

I edited the page http://www.wou.edu/example/url/index.php
yesterday on Contribute on one of the terminal servers but didn't publish it. Now when I try to open it again in Contribute it tells me that I can't edit it because I am already doing so on another computer. In the meantime I've edited and published it from Dreamweaver. Could you release it for Contribute, please?

To content provider
this is an easy one. Go to where the page is located on the local network and arrange pages by name. Next to the original file you should see one with a .lck extension. Just delete this file and all is good. This also happens with Dreamweaver with the check in / check out features. Both Dreamweaver and Contribute can be buggy with this feature

I tell folks to never save for later with Contribute, because the terminal server does not always map well as your local computer for this feature

Thank you
