1. Journal Assignment 1 due 10/6: Read Chapters 1-3 of Huff’s book. Write a summary of his main points (1-2 pages). Try to think of other examples of statistical misuses analogous to the ones Huff is presenting. Read Chapters 1 and 2 in Cliffs Review and write down three important points down for each chapter. Each point should be a sentence or two.

2. Journal Assignment 2 due 10/20: Read Chapters 4-7 of Huff’s book. Write a summary of his main points (1-2 pages). Try to think of other examples of statistical misuses analogous to the ones Huff is presenting. Read Chapter 3 in Cliffs Review and write down three important points down for each chapter. 3. Journal Assignment 3 due 11/3: Read Chapters 8-10 of Huff’s book. Write a summary of his main points (1-2 pages). Try to think of other examples of statistical misuses analogous to the ones Huff is presenting. Read Chapters 4 and 5 in Cliffs Review and write down three important points down for each chapter. Each point should be a sentence or two.

4. Journal Assignment 4 due 11/17: Go to the library and find 2 articles in Teaching Children Mathematics and 2 articles in Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School related to probability and statistics. Write a short summary of the articles of your choice. Make sure to include the title and authors of the articles.

5. Journal Assignment 5 due 12/2: Go to http://standards.nctm.org/document/index.htm

and choose your class level of interest. Read the section dedicated to Data Analysis and Probability. Write down a 2 page summary and commentary to this document.
