When creating a work of art, it's not "what" the piece will be, but rather "why" the way the piece is or why it is not the way it should have been. I always like to tie in philosophy wherever I can, it makes art more interesting. Most of my art consists of many styles, I always believed if you have just one particular style to your art, then you haven't experimented enough and you haven't put yourself in danger. I love to play around with art and mix different themes together and try and make them work. For example, let's say the piece is quite playful or whimsical yet there is still some kind of seriousness and control. Some of my work is life experiences as well, often times though the truth is stretched a little. I've been involved with art all my life. My great-grandmother was an artist and my grandfather always encouraged me to be expressive and read between the lines. I finally ended up in a Magnet High school that varied ages from 13-20, and 6th-12th graders. Where every class was geared towards the arts. There was no sports team, and you were shunned if the word 'Football" was even mentioned. It was an exciting experience, and most of the teachers there have influenced so much in who I am as an artist today. I entered gallery showings, put pieces in the Oregon Convention Center's Ceramic Showcase, and won various honorable mention awards. My best friend and I have headed up the new Alumni Association, where once every year during the school's art festival Alumni have a chance to show what they have been doing in the past year and have a chance to sell their art. I have always been neck deep in art and will continue to be so for the rest of my life. I don't plan on denying my soul and body from expressing itself. |
