Number of Countries: 1; Antarctica is one big country!

Population: There are no permanent residents on Antarctica, but there are government officials and researchers there often. In the winter time, about 1,000 people in research stations in antarctica and 4,000 live there in the summer time.

Highest Point: Vinson Massif is 16,050 ft. high!

Economy: The biggest form of economy in Antarctica is fishing and some tourism. Coal, copper, nickel, gold, etc. has been found, but is not mined because there is not enough of it.

Climate: Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth, and also very dry. Most of the continent is covered ice, but is still considered desert because of the lack of rain. -129 degrees F is the coldest termperature ever recorded. That's cold!

Animals: Animals that live on Antarctica are ones that enjoy cold water and icy climate. These animals include: penquins, orcas, seals and blue whales. The only animals that live on land are little bugs like microscopic lice and mites.

Language: There is no set language, people come from all over the world to study and research, and use their home languages to communicate to each other.

Food: The only food that is found in Antarctica is fish, so people that are living there have to bring food that can last a long time or can travel well.

People: The only people on Antarctica are researchers, scientists, government officials and occasional tourists.

They are there to study animal life, the microorganisms, and the climate.
