Math 394 Die Cuts
Spring Term 2011

The die cut machine and die cut templates are at the Technology Resource Center (ITC). Be sure to leave plenty of time to cut out your polygons; it takes awhile.

We will make the tetrahedron, cube and octahedron in class using Origami paper; you may also wish to cut out die cut faces to make a tetrahedron, cube and octahedron that match the other two Platonic Solids--they are very quick and easy to construct with the elastic polygon die cut pieces.

Optional Die cut Pieces

• Tetrahedron: 4 elastic triangle faces
• Cube: 6 elastic square faces
• Octahedron: 8 elastic triangle faces

• Icosahedron: 20 elastic triangle faces
• Dodecahedron: 12 elastic pentagon faces
• Soccer Ball--Truncated Icosahedron: 20 elastic hexagons and 12 elastic pentagons

Cardstock (passed out in class)

• 1 - 2 sheets of cardstock for triangles
• 1 sheet for squares
• 2 sheets for pentagons
• 4 sheets for hexagons
