Embellishing Tones Project
Here is the template for the Embellishing Tones project.
Click "Continue Reading" for the project description.
Create 4 4-measure phrases in 4 parts.
• Use the Finale template emailed to the class and posted to my blog.
• Harmonic motion in all cases will be I-IV-V7-I or i-iv-V7-i.
• Three voices should be relatively static and demonstrate traditional voice-leading principles.
• The fourth voice (soprano, alto, or tenor) should demonstrate interesting melodic writing as well as good voice-leading.
• Each exercise should emphasize a different embellishing tone:
o 1 – Passing tones and double passing tones
o 2 – Neighbors, double neighbors, and incomplete neighbors
o 3 – Embellished and non-embellished suspensions and retardations
o 4 – Anticipations
• Use these keys:
o 1 – D
o 2 – b
o 3 – Bb
o 4 – g
• In the Finale file, you will need two layers to write the four voices. Layer 1 is set for soprano and tenor. Layer 2 is set for alto and bass.
• Save the file with this title: ET-Yourname.mus
• Email the file to berge@wou.edu by 9 pm the day before the due date.
• Print and add a color-coded analysis.
• Due Monday 7 April @ 10 am.
