Chuck Sher, Ed: The Standards Real Book. Sher Publications

MATERIALS blank manuscript paper (looseleaf or pad preferred)
Recommended: 0.7 or 0.9 mm pencil with eraser
Set of colored pencils for analysis

COURSE OVERVIEW
Introduction to the elements of musical composition and common-practice Tonality. Some previous music experience recommended. This is the first term of a sequence required for music majors and minors.

COURSE GOALS
Students will learn fundamental concepts of music notation
Students will be understand, analyze and apply basic printicples of Tonality
Students will write a song in the style of “Tin Pan Alley� composers

Projects are due at 10 am on the announced due date. Late projects will earn a maximum grade of 80%.
