Friday 4/4
Remember Friday is our scoring workshop - do not miss!
Revise (in our google drive) your letters to each buddy by replacing the bulleted list of praises and prompts into sentences. You may wishe to reference the unofficial Plain English Scoring Guide for possible phrases to use in your letter. Deductions for late work.
Saturday 4/5 midnight

Re-score your work and your partner's work using the Scoring sheet (for your buddies) and the Partner Scoring sheet (for your partner's buddies). For full credit you must put comments related to the scoring guide for each score. Your buddy assignments can be found in the "General" Folder of our google drive. Your partner work can be found in the "IES Student Work" folder under Turkey problem in our google drive.

Here are the comments from the scoring workshop. They are good examples of the types of comments I am looking for: Workshop Comments

Mon. 4/7 beginning of class
Keep an eye on your email for comments on your letters. The comments will either be from myself or someone named "Kait" or "Heather". If you disagree with a comment, click on reply and explain. If you have addressed a comment click on "resolve". Once your comments have all been addressed I will reread your letter. Once I feel your letter is done I will comment "Ready to print". This means you are done. You will print your letter and bring it to class on Friday. If you do not get comments right away, please be patient. Remember I have over 60 to do.

Use the NEW SCORING SHEET AND NEW PARTNER SCORING SHEET (passed out in class or downloadable here) to score the work of BOTH your buddies AND your WOU partner's buddies.

  • Your WOU partner assignment is DIFFERENT from last time. The assignment can be found in the google drive under Candy 1 Problem / "Buddy Assignmnents Problem 2"
  • Buddy work will be available sometime Wednesday evening and can be found in our google drive under Candy 1 Problem/ IES Student Work. A file named Candy.1-5 means that that file contains the work from buddies 1 through 5. You will have to look up the work for both your buddies and your partner's buddies.
  • You should be completing 6-7 scoring sheets depending on how many buddies you and your partner have (fewer is some did not turn in any work)
Friday 4/18 BEGINNING of class

Write a draft letter to your buddies. Use the Candy Template found in the google drive Candy 1 Problem / Candy Letters Please remember to COPY and RENAME the template (please do not open it or write over it and then rename it!!!)

Sample Prompts

Sunday 4/20 midnight

Updated this is now due Monday 4/21 by 4pm

Comment on the letters written by your WOU partner to their buddies (begin after their letter is complete - remember it is not due until Sunday midnight). Go to the google drive Candy 1 Problem / Candy Letters, find your WOU partner's name and number. Open each letter and read it and write comments for improper grammer, incomplete or sentence fragments, and help make sure the praise and prompts are appropriate and clear. If you do not comment on something obvious, then you will be marked down for this task.

Monday 4/21 midnight

Updated - start working on this after 4pm today (Mon. 4/21) and finish by 4pm Tues. 4/22

REVISE your buddy letters based on your partner's comments.

Note: Do a careful reading and editing of your letters. By the time you are done you should have what you consider a final draft. Any changes that must be made after this time (that should have been obvious to you) will cause a 10% drop in your grade for the letter. If multiple changes have to be made then your grade may drop more.

Tuesday 4/22 midnight

Updated - you have til beginning of class Wed. 4/23 to finish this

Keep an eye on your letters from additional comments from myself, Kait or Heather. Respond in a timely fashion and look for the "ready to print" comment and bring out a printed letter to class Friday.
