4/1/08
12:30-12:55p
25 mins
English: Copied a singer I have never heard before.
Some of the concepts are hard to put into ASL. What does that mean (specific things)???
Are songs ok to use for this activity?

4/2/08
7:30-8:10p

40 mins
ASL: Practiced "mock" consecutive interpreting at a friend's birthday party.
Noticed I did not relay all the information because I was (initially) just there to have fun. I could not separate myself from the situation.
What else could I have done?
4/3/08
9:15-9:45a
30 mins
ASL: Copied the on-tape signer when she fingerspelled medical terms and Presidential names.
Receptive skills need improvement, but my overall expression has improved. The fingerspelling workshop is really helping.
Do in-class activities count? What other techniques could I use to enhance my receptive and expressive skills pertaining to fingerspelling?
4/7/08 8:15-8:55p
40 mins
English: Singing and playing guitar at the same time.
I can't keep the rhythm going while singing, so sometimes I get off track. I also can't focus on the words; mostly just humming.
I need to memorize the lyrics of the song.

4/8/08 9-9:15

15 mins
ASL: Copied the on-tape signer when she fingerspelled Greek menu items.
The foreign names are hard to grasp. I barely caught any of them, no matter how simple. Expressive and receptive skills need work (I spelled them incorrectly).
I need to practice fingerspelling foreign names/words.
4/9/08 9:05-9:15p
10 mins
English: Singing, reading the lyrics, looking at the chords, and playing guitar at the same time.
Some places that do not have the same syllables are hard to keep the right strumming going, but I think I'm doing much better. Little-to-no messups on the beginning of the song. I do not have to look at my hands as much.
It was tired after a long day of classes and swimming.

4/12/08
11:00-11:20a

20 mins
English: Immediate repetition of YouTube VLogs.
Speaking English over English is so hard! There is so much noise, and I could not focus.
Do you want the specific VLogs?
4/14/08
8:10-8:30p
20 mins
ASL: Immediate repetition of Pat Richey and Ena Williams.
Wow, Ena Williams was extremely hard to understand (cold), and especially hard to keep up with.
Copying Ena Williams for 10+ minutes felt like a 1/2 hour... does that count?
4/15/08
7:22-7:55
23 mins
English: Singing and playing guitar at the same time.
Now that I am using a pick I feel like I've gone the opposite direction. Using a pick, playing the right notes, and singing seems like three tasks at once.
None
4/16/08
20 mins
Eng & ASL: Patrie Assignment
UGH Patrie!
4/18/08
30 mins
Reading lyrics and chords, and singing and playing guitar.
Am I getting worse?
4/22/08
20 mins
English to ASL CII: mind mapping/content mapping National Geographic vids.
I need to figure out which classifiers to use for scorpions mating, and making a delicacy out of a bull's penis.
4/23/08
20 mins
ASL & Eng: Patrie assignment.
4/24/08
20 mins
ASL: Immediate repetition of YouTube VLogs.
I can definitely see an improvement in my processing time.
4/27/08
30 mins
Writing a paper and talking to my best friend at the same time on the phone.

Her and I are used to not listening to each other so she didn't mind much, but I can't really remember all of what she said.
4/29/08
20 mins
Eng: immediate repeptition of YouTube VLogs.
4/30/08
12 mins
Eng: listening to a speaker and transcribing everything he said.
That is so difficult. Without the ability to pause there is a tremendous loss of information. Some of my sentences weren't even complete.
5/1/08
10 mins
Researching a topic for Lab while listening to my boyfriend telling me about his day.
If I didn't already know what his day typically looks like, I probably couldn't tell you half of what he said. I need to work on this kind of activity.
5/2/08
20 mins
ASL: Immediate repetition of Valli: "Purchasing a Condo." (repeated)
I love watching Valli because he is so organized and easy to understand. = )
5/4/08
25 mins
ASL & Eng: Patrie assignment.
5/6/08
25 mins
Eng to ASL SI: Simultaneously interpreting a meeting that the techies were having in the MOD while Brandon and I were working on homework. It was just for fun.
I don't know anything about networking, so all the terminology really stunted my interpretation.
We also practiced teaming a little bit.
5/7/08
30 mins
ASL: Watching and analyzing my Patrie work.
I did not know this counted. Dang, I wish I would have known earlier.
5/9/08
20 mins
ASL: Immediate repetition of Steven Simmon & Lee Ivy.
I cannot understand a word of what Lee Ivy says! OMG.
5/13/08
23 mins
Eng: Listening to a speaker and transcribing everything she says.
Yep, it is still not any easier than the last time.
5/15/08
30 mins
Eng & ASL: immediate repetition of YouTube videos.
5/16/08
25 mins
Singing, reading lyrics and chords, and playing guitar (with a pick) at the same time.
I still hate picks!
5/18/08
25 mins
ASL & Eng: Patrie Assignment.
UGH Patrie.
5/20/08
30 mins
Eng: Watching and Analyzing my Patrie work.
5/21/08
25 mins
Eng & ASL: Patrie Assignment
5/23/08
30 mins
Eng: Watchi ng and analyzing my Patrie work.
5/25/08
20 mins
Simultaneous interpretation of "ADA and Your Rights."
Multiple times; I can never get all the information in there.
Doing this assignment really made me appreciate consecutive interpreting.
5/27/08
30 mins
Singing, reading lyrics and chords, and playing guitar.
5/28/08
30 mins
Singing, reading lyrics and chords, and playing guitar.
I feel like I am memorizing the chords faster so I can just focus on the lyrics.
I think it is time for a different activity with guitar. Maybe fingerpicking.
5/31/08
20 mins
Eng & ASL: Patrie Assignment
6/1/08
30 mins
Eng: Watching and analyzing my Patrie work.
6/2/08
20 mins
Simultaneously interpreting "ADA Restoration Act" by Tom Harkin.
Ok, maybe simultaneoues interpreting is not so bad. Timing is definitely going to be an issue (and processing time).
6/4/08
30 mins
Typing up homework and talking to my best friend at the same time.
6/6/08
20 mins
Researching Deb Kropf and others for the baseline skills assessment while IM-ing with friends online.
Multiple conversations are difficult. Some people are left in silence for up to 10 minutes before I get back to them. Yikes!
6/7/08
26 mins
Simultaneous interpretation of the Baseline Skills Assessment.
I tried interpreting Deb Kropf again (too see if I could keep up with her better now that the text was warm) but I still couldn't. Did you ask her to talk that fast, or is that her usual pace?
Does this count? It was out of class, just like the Patrie assignments.
