Congratulations to the class of 2016! Today marks the 159th Commencement for Western Oregon University. Check out some of these interesting stats about our graduating class and stories about many of them.

  • The graduating class of 2016 totals 1,323 individuals that have earned a total of 1,333 degrees. 900 are attending commencement today.
  • 83 percent of today’s graduates are receiving a bachelor’s degree
  • 17 percent of today’s graduates are receiving a master’s degree.
  • Our youngest student receiving a bachelor’s degree is 19 years old.
  • Our youngest student receiving a master’s degree is 22.
  • The most experienced graduate receiving their master’s degree is 59 years young. (There are two most experienced students receiving a bachelor’s degree at 63.)
  • Our graduates today represent:
    • 32 of 36 counties in Oregon;
    • The states of: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
    • Nine countries are represented: China, Honduras, India, Liberia, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam
    • 10 students have completed 2 bachelor’s degrees at the same time
    • 12 students receiving a bachelor’s degree have a 4.00 cumulative GPA
    • 49 students receiving a master’s degree have a 4.00 cumulative GPA
    • 119 students are graduating Summa cum laude (GPA above 3.8)
    • 109 students are graduating Magna cum laude (GPA 3.65 to 3.79)
    • 105 students are graduating Cum laude (GPA 3.5 to 3.64)
