Grad profile: Joleen Braasch

WOU grad Joleen Braasch

Joleen Braasch is a student from Salem, Ore. who will be graduating from Western Oregon University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. She decided to come to WOU because it is close to home, she liked the idea of small class sizes, and at the time, she was interested in becoming a teacher. She wanted to feel like she was part of a community, rather than just another face in the crowd.

While here, Braasch has taken part in many things on campus. She was an office assistant for the Student Enrichment Program, a selection committee member for the Northwest Passage, a member of PLUS team, the secretary for the education club, a lead in the 2016 drag show, and so much more. She was also voted outstanding student in literature by the English faculty, and won runner-up in the Meyer’s Essay Contest.

Braasch says working on campus has been a huge part of her time at WOU. She has been working for the Student Enrichment Program since her freshman year. She loves having the opportunity to work with students and watch them grow at her job each day. Braasch says that the Student Enrichment program is the reason she is finishing college. She has utilized the resources they offer to help her thrive.

Braasch is also working as the Wolves Athletic Auction assistant this year. She collects donations for the auction by making phone calls and writing emails to past and potential donors. Her other job duties include keeping track of contacts, making note of what has been given, which donors require online applications, creating descriptions for the items that have been given, tracking donations on the day of the event, and the list goes on. She says it is stressful but very satisfying knowing what a huge role she plays in the funding of next year’s student athletes.

After graduation, Braasch’s plans are simply to seek employment. She says she has been busy ever since kindergarten, and she is excited that the whole world is open to her after graduation.

Thank you for your contributions to WOU, Joleen! Your diversity of experiences will take you far in life!
