How to set up a site in Dreamweaver
Before editing any part of the WOU website in Dreamweaver, you must define the site options. Since dreamweaver is designed to work with multiple websites, setting options for a particular site is called "setting up a site".
Dreamweaver MX 2004 (see below for additional instructions for Dreamweaver 8 and CS3)
Go to the Site menu and choose Manage Sites.

The Manage Sites dialog box will appear.

Click the new button, and you will see a dropdown menu with two options.

Choose Site, and you will see the New Site dialog box. If it does not look like the picture below, click the Advanced tab.

Change the settings to match the picture below. It is especially important that the "Enable Cache" checkbox be unchecked.

Click Remote Info on the left side of the box, and you will see the Remote Info options.

Choose "local/Network" in the menu, and you will get more options; set them as shown below.

Click Testing Server on the left side, and you will see the Testing Server options.

Set the options as shown below. It is especially important that the URL prefix be set to "http://www.wou.edu" as shown, though you will not see that option until you set the Server Model and Access menus above it.

Click Contribute on the left to see the Contribute options. It is crucial that you leave this box unchecked! Later, whenever Dreamweaver asks you if you wish to enable Contribute compatibility, you must always say no.

Dreamweaver 8 options
Dreamweaver 8 and CS3 are almost exactly the same; there are just a few more options in the Local and Remote Info settings, as shown below.
It is crucial that you set the "Links Relative to:" option to "Site Root", and you should also check the case-sensitive link checking option.

The remote info page offers one more checkbox than in Dreamweaver MX 2004; make sure all are unchecked. Unchecking the synchronization box will pop up a warning; continue through it.
