Professional:

Dr. Joshua Schulze completed his doctorate in education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he specialized in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Language, Literacy, and Culture. He has extensive K-12 teaching experience in the US having taught in Boston, Las Vegas, and Orlando as well as international teaching experience in Poland and China. An accomplished classroom teacher, he earned National Board Certification in Middle Childhood Literacy in 2004. His scholarship focuses on exploring how systemic functional linguistics can help educators understand the academic language demands of school to improve academic writing instruction for emergent bilingual students.  His research has been published in scholarly journals and he has presented his scholarship at international conferences in Cambodia, Japan, Mexico, Ireland, and Rwanda. In his spare time, he enjoys language learning, genealogy, reading, and travel.
