Professional:

Dr. Melanie Landon-Hays completed her doctoral studies at Utah State University, focusing on content area literacy, adolescent literacy and writing instruction. Prior to her graduate work she was a high school English teacher and literacy coach. Her research interests include: discovering teachers’ perceptions of their own efficacy in teaching writing instruction and in providing them with pragmatic, scaffolded models to improve their classroom writing instruction, building their teaching efficacy and enhancing her growing understanding of how literacy can compliment discipline specific learning.   Additionally, she is interested in how online social spaces create room for more voices in the conversations about school reform, particularly grassroots movements advocating for public schools. She is married to Ben Hays, a para-educator at Adams Elementary in Corvallis, who is also an artist. They are parents to two boys: Oliver who is 10 years old  and Henry, who is 4.
