Meal Plan Balance Goals
You have made your meal plan selection, now HOW do you go about managing your account so that it lasts throughout the term? Your goal should be to end up using all of your food dollars each term - with neither a balance to carry forward into the next term or shortage of money to eat as you make your way through the term.
Based on an estimated $3.00 per meal AVERAGE MEAL COST in Valsetz Dining Hall , (where residents with meal plans pay wholesale prices. Purchases at all other campus restaurants charged to meal plan accounts are retail purchases as overhead costs for these restaurants is not included in the room and board fees that residents pay. Overhead costs for Valsetz Dining Hall only ARE built into the room and board fees that residents pay.) the following chart will give you an idea of the number of meals that you can expect to purchase during Fall Term based on the meal plan you have chosen.
Weekly Balance Goals - by Meal Plan
As the term progresses, you will find Weekly Meal Plan Balance Goal sheets posted at each of our registers in the Valsetz Dining Hall. These are meant to be goals you should try to follow as closely as possible to fully utilize your chosen meal plan each week. If followed closely, you should have a zero balance at term's end - or close to it.

As a reminder, you can - and SHOULD periodically ask what your current balance is as you make purchases.
Should you need to change your meal plan FOR THE FOLLOWING TERM you can do so in the Office of University Housing & Campus Dining. Also if you need to add to your balance at any time, you may make additions - $20.00 minimum - to your dining account (credit, exact cash (no change) or check) in the Housing Office as well.
