Multicultural Student Services & Programs

Mission Statement

The Office of Multicultural Student Services & Programs is committed to providing educational opportunities and outstanding programming for ethnic and culturally diverse students.  MSSP strives to foster a supportive environment for students of color to live, learn and grow as active members of the Western Oregon University community and as individuals. 

 

Services

  • Assisting prospective students and families with the admissions and university processes.
  • Organizing and presenting workshops focused on preparing students to enter higher education.
  • Providing personal support and guidance to currently enrolled students.
  • Assisting with general academic and career advisement.
  • Making student aware of scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
  • Connecting students to educational resources on and off campus.
  • Advising the Multicultural Student Union (MSU).
  • Assisting MSU with the organization and implementation of campus-wide cultural events.
  • Networking and establishing communications with community-based organizations.
  • Coordinating the Diversity Scholars Program.
  • Coordinating the On-Track Program.
  • Advising the Multicultural Recruiters.

 

Get Involved

We advise the Multicultural Student Union (MSU) on campus. MSU has weekly meetings, discussions, gatherings and retreats. The club also sponsors numerous cultural events throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to participate in and to assist in our goal to raise cultural awareness and diversity issues on WOU’s campus and in the surrounding community. Office Location

The Multicultural Student Services and Programs Office is on Level 5 of the Academic Programs and Support Center (APSC) building. The APSC building is at the South end of campus, on the NE corner of Jackson Street and Monmouth Avenue. The APSC building is building number 4 on the campus map. Located in the heart of Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley, Western Oregon University is the oldest institution in the Oregon University system with an award-winning campus that blends welcoming traditional features with multimedia classrooms, wireless web access and a state-of-the-art library. WOU is home to the nationally-renowned Teaching Research Institute, the Regional Resource Center on Deafness and the Rainbow Dance Theatre with approximately two-thirds of its students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the rest in the College of Education.
