FISH - Fun Instructional Swimming Hour

Swim Lessons At Western Oregon University, we pride ourselves on teaching the necessary skills needed to explore water as a lifelong fitness and recreational opportunity. Our philosophy is to always reward children with praise and positive reinforcement for a job well done. Children are never forced to perform. We wait until each child is ready. We believe that with patience, encouragement, and practice, our students will make the most of their time in the pool.

Registration is done at the front desk of the Health and Wellness Center using cash/check during operational hours. Registration per session begins at the end of the previous session. Registration deadline for each session is the Thursday prior to the start date. Classes are filled on a first-come first-served basis. Children should be placed in classes according to their age and previous swim experience. Generally, students spend two or three sessions in one level before moving on.

  • The Monday thru Thursday three week sessions consists of 12 lessons; each lesson lasts 30 minutes
  • The Monday and Wednesday six week session consist of 12 lessons; each lesson lasts 30 minutes
  • Our instructor to child ratio is 1 instructor per 3 to 5 children

AquaFit

This class is geared for all levels of fitness and is held in the shallow water of our lap pool. It includes a warm-up, pre-exercise stretch, 30 minutes of aerobic activity, abdominal toning, stretching, and strength activities. This cardio intense class will get your blood pumping and increase the release of endorphins, helping you get through your day with extra energy.

Hydrosculpt

A little to no-impact moderate intensity class, in the deep end of our pool, which minimizes the stress on joints. This class emphasizes fitness, endurance, strength, flexibility, and body alignment. This is a great cross training workout for all sports and is an extremely challenging and invigorating workout designed only for those participants who are comfortable in a deep water environment.

Snap Crackle Pop

Held in the warm waters of our therapy pool, this class focuses on full range of motion, flexibility, socialization, and relaxation. Great for individuals working through rehabilitation, pain management, arthritis, injuries, back problems, fibromyalgia, and surgery recovery. This class is a low intensity workout. Swimming is not required.

Aqua Zumba

Known as the Zumba "pool party," Aqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.
