Making a confidential appointment:

The first appointment is an intake session. This session allows you to become more comfortable with the counselor and the counselor to become acquainted with your concerns. Any student of WOU, registered for at least 6 credit hours, or has paid the health fee is eligible to access the counseling center.

Frequently asked questions Who are the providers?

The counseling center professional staff is composed of state licensed counselors, counselor trainees and graduate-level interns. The staff has experience working with a wide variety of mental health issues.

 

What types of issues can they help me with?

Students seek assistance on a variety of concerns such as depression, stress management, relationship issues, eating disorders, test anxiety, sexual assault, harassment physical, sexual & hate based, grief and loss, sexuality issues, psychological trauma, adjustment to school, anger management, substance abuse, self esteem, issues with roommates, performance anxiety, phobias, and life planning..

 

Where is it located?

The counseling center is located in the student health services building on Church Street across from the Werner University Center.

 

Who is eligible to obtain services?

Students who are currently enrolled for six or more credit hours, or who opt to pay the health and counseling center fee, may receive services at the counseling center.

 

What are the hours?

The counseling center is open monday through friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

How do I make an appointment?

The first appointment is an intake session. This session allows you to become comfortable with the counselor and the counselor to become acquainted with your issues. Any student of WOU, registered for at least 6 credit hours, is eligible to access the counseling center for an intake session and follow-up sessions for free.

 

If you would like to make an appointment, or for more information, call 503-838-8396 or stop by the counseling center. Students in crisis are seen immediately.

Grief Workshop
Thursdays 12:00-1:00p

  • To provide a time and space for students managing the loss of a loved one
  • To learn more about the grieving process and to gather additional information and coping strategies
  • Share with others about their losses and connect with those who have had similar experiences
  • This group takes place during lunch hours; participants are welcome to bring their lunch

The Student Health and Counseling Center welcomes their new Director, Dr. Michelle J. Cox. Dr. Cox, or Michelle, as she prefers to be called, returns to our campus after a 6-year stint teaching in the Graduate Department of Counseling at George Fox University. In addition to being a WOU alumnus ('89), Michelle completed her Master's of Counseling internship in our Counseling Center and was hired immediately after as a Professional Counselor before leaving to pursue her doctorate. Michelle loves this campus and meeting students so take the time to say hello or send her an email at coxm@wou.edu!
