American Cancer Society Scholarship
Applicants must be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 and must be 25 or younger at the time of application. Students must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming. Open to graduating high school seniors and continuing students. Students must pursue full time enrollment and have at least a 2.5 GPA. More information can be found at www.cancer.org. The AFT-Oregon annually awards three $1,000 scholarships. The Carl J. Megel Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors, who are dependent sons and daughters of members. The Albert F. Shanker Scholarship is open to students continuing their higher education and who are dependent sons and daughters of members. The Shirley J. BigSun Athletic Scholarship
All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they are engaged in. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute. More information can be found at www.bigsunathletics.com.
Elva Kleger Salem Retired Educators Scholarship
Open to students in the last year of their teacher-training program. Two $750 scholarships will be awarded. Any level of education will be considered, including counseling. The scholarship will be available for winter or spring term 2010. Application deadline is December 8, 2009.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program
Open to African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American students enrolling as a first year, full time student in fall 2010. Students must have a 3.3 GPA or have earned a GED and have demonstrated leadership abilities through community service and extracurricular activities. Students must be a US citizen, national, or legal permanent resident and meet Pell Grant eligibility. More information can be found at www.gmsp.org. Applications are due January 11, 2010.

Howard Vollum American Indian Scholarship
For Native American residents of Clackamas, Multnomah or Washington counties in Oregon or Clark County in Washinton, who are seeking a post secondary degree in science, computer science, engineering, or math.

Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship
The Mensa Education and Research Foundation college scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by applicants. Consideration is not given to grades, academic program, or financial aid. Applicants need not be Mensa members. More information is available at www.mensafoundation.org. OHSU School of Nursing Scholarship Program

Oregon Association Chiefs of Police

Oregon Community Foundation
Provides information on Oregon Community Foundation Scholarships administered through various Oregon schools. Scholarship criteria and application locations are available here. Please visit your school's appropriate office if they are listed as having a scholarship.
Oregon PTA's Teacher Education Scholarship
Applicants must be Oregon residents attending an Oregon public college or university that trains teachers or transfers education credits. Students must major in education with the goal of becoming a primary or secondary teacher at an Oregon school. Awards are $500. Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2010 to March 22, 2010. Pride Foundation-LGTBQ Community Foundation Scholarships
Pride Foundation provides educational scholarships to current and future lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight-ally leaders from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. Salem Hospital Scholarships
Scholarships are granted by the Salem Hospital Auxiliary, the Salem Hospital Foundation, and the West Valley Hospital Foundation for students pursuing a degree in a medically related field. Tillamook Ladies of the Elks
Scholarships are open to male and female second year students who graduated from any Tillamook County High School. Students must have achieved a minimum 2.5 GPA during their first year of study. Awards are $1,500. Scholarship deadline is December 4, 2009.
