The FAFSA on the Web worksheet is also available to help you complete the online FAFSA. March 1st is WOU's priority filing date (WOU school code: 003209). Summer Session 2008 financial aid request available
WOU students wishing to be considered for financial aid for summer session 2008 need to complete a Summer Session 2008 Request Form which is available now. Summer session is the last term of the 2007-2008 financial aid year at WOU so it is possible that students will have used their entire annual financial aid eligibility over the regular academic year. If you plan to use financial aid at WOU for summer session 2008, you must have a valid 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with WOU's school code (003209) listed. To evaluate aid eligibility, students should submit the Summer Session 2008 Request Form once they have decided their final summer session class schedule. Students will receive a response to their request informing them of their financial aid eligibility for summer session. As a reminder, students must be fully admitted to WOU and be seeking a degree or certificate to qualify for summer session financial aid.
Tuition calculator now available
WOU now offers a tuition estimator to help you plan for your tuition expenses for the year. Your exact tuition and fees and other WOU charges will be reflected on your bill (available online prior to each term) and mailed to you prior to the start of each term.
Beware of financial aid scams
and fee-for service offers
The Financial Aid Office would like to remind students and families that financial aid consumer information is available for free in multiple formats. Financial aid information is available from the US Department of Education online or by phone at 1-800-4FED-AID. The WOU Financial Aid Office does not recommend that anyone pay for financial aid or scholarship advice without thoroughly researching a company. Tips about financial aid scams and evaluating a consultant can be found at www.finaid.org. At WOU the only paperwork that you must complete to apply for all types of federal and state financial aid is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Should you receive requests for information from agencies other than the WOU Financial Aid Office, please feel free to contact us to see if the information is necessary for your WOU financial aid file. Always question any financial aid information that requires a "processing fee" of any sort.
Promissory notes & loan counseling
If you need to sign a promissory note for your Stafford or PLUS loan, you can do so online. You may also complete your Stafford Entrance Loan Counseling online. If you need to sign a Perkins Loan promissory note, the WOU Business Office will mail you that information in September. If you have been awarded and accepted a Federal Perkins Loan, you need to complete entrance loan counseling online through mapping-your-future.org (this is in addition to the entrance loan counseling for the Stafford loan program above). Click the mapping-your-future link above and choose "Student Loan Counseling Interview" on the left-hand side of the page, then "Perkins Entrance," then choose "Oregon" and "Western Oregon University" to complete the process.
